The notion of cura personalis, care for the whole person, can help clarify the limitations of the role of AI in communication, evangelizing, and the full development of human beings. Three aspects of care for the spirit stand out:

1.     Longing for meaning is something very different than searching for information or statistical analysis of information.

2.     Mystery in life is a reminder of all the knowledge we still don’t have, and of the fact that not all that matters is quantifiable.

3.     Orientation to something true is quite distinct from an analysis of word frequencies in large training datasets, packaged to sound credible (even when those models might claim to reference “an ever-growing number of Church documents/resources”).
